PHOENIX (CBS5) -- School administrators at a Phoenix high school were checking a USB flash drive found in a classroom to locate its owner, but in their search Thursday they also discovered child pornography.

Information on the thumb drive indicated 49-year-old Greg Paul Parr owned the device, Phoenix police spokesman Office James Holmes said.

On Friday, a search warrant was served on Parr's home in Glendale and he was arrested and booked into jail on five counts of sexual exploitation of a minor.

Holmes said evidence found at the home could lead to additional charges.

Phoenix police said Parr is a substitute teacher at Cortez High School.

The Glendale Union High School District sent this letter to parents of Cortez students.

"Dear Cortez Parents/Guardians:

"This letter is to inform you of an incident that happened over the weekend. A substitute employee was arrested on sexual exploitation of a minor. The charges are unrelated to Cortez or Cortez students.

"Glendale Union High School District performs background checks on all substitutes. No previous allegations or criminal activity were indicated in this substitute's background check.

"Our practice in a situation like this is to share as much information as we can with you. Although this is an ongoing police matter, please be assured that if we learn of information related to Cortez that we are permitted to share, we will do so immediately.

"Thank you in advance for your support and understanding. Please feel free to contact me if you have questions or concerns.

"Walter Sampson, Principal"

The Deer Valley Unified School District also issued a letter Monday to parents in connection with Parr's arrest:

"Dear Parent/Guardian,

"There is some information that we feel is important to share with you in an effort to maintain transparent communication as we work together to ensure a safe and secure school community.

"DVUSD became aware that a former employee was arrested in connection to allegations of exploitation of a minor. The employee worked at the following schools:

  • Deer Valley High School, 2007-2011
  • Sandra Day O'Connor, 2011-2012
  • New River Elementary and Park Meadows Elementary, 2012-2013

"The former employee is currently working in another district. The Phoenix Police Department is investigating. The safety of our students remains a top priority for DVUSD.

"We encourage parents to talk with your children about the importance of feeling safe and comfortable with adults at all times and to report any instances of potentially inappropriate language or behavior.
