(KMOV.com) – Police said a man is facing charges for allegedly trying to sexually assault a woman at the Club Fitness location in Brentwood.

39-year-old Grant Deere, of Hannibal, is charged with burglary and attempted sodomy. Deere allegedly entered the gym around 3:30 Tuesday morning before pulling the victim off a piece of workout equipment and wrestling her to the ground.  Police said he admitted that his intent was to have sexual contact with her. She was able to fend him off.

Some Club Fitness gyms are open 24 hours, but members who want to get in overnight must use a security key card. Deere is not a member, but was still able to get in.

“Signs in the window say ‘With inclement and cold weather, don’t let anybody in the club with you.’ It’s policy,” said member Mike Philbin.

That policy varies based on location and hours of operation. Management said security cards are used to enter, and security lanyards contain a button that when pressed, dials 911. Management also said each gym has indoor surveillance cameras. Most locations are staffed at all times but some do not have a specific front door staff overnight.

A Club Fitness officials said overnight staff will be added to the Brentwood location.
