MASCOUTAH, Ill. (AP) -- A southwestern Illinois county is offering free land to a little-known federal intelligence agency that’s looking for a new home near St. Louis.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that the St. Clair County Board will donate land near Scott Air Force Base and MidAmerica Airport to the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency. The combined defense and intelligence agency provides mapping support for the U.S. military.

The agency is looking to move from its current location near the Anheuser-Busch brewery in St. Louis. It’s also considering sites in north St. Louis, and Fenton and Mehlville in St. Louis County.

St. Louis city leaders plan to use eminent domain and pay at least $20 million to property owners who would have to relocate from the site of the former Pruitt-Igoe public housing complex.
