SALEM, OR (KPTV) –  A man who was hospitalized for a dog bite after leading police on a car chase that caused property damage to a number of Salem businesses has been released from the hospital and arrested.

Salem police say some of 24-year-old Kao Nai Saechao's charges include attempting to elude police, hit-and-run, criminal mischief and DUI.

On Saturday, Saechao was being treated at the Salem Hospital ER for swallowing a bag of meth.

Hospital staff called the police when they watched Saechao get into a car and drive away. Police say doctors advised Saechao not to leave the hospital.

A Salem Police Officer found Saechao's car, followed it and attempted to stop it.

Police say Saechao pulled off of Hines Street into Skyline car lot, drove to the back of the lot and hit a fence.

Saechao quickly pulled out of the lot, back onto Hines Street, driving through landscaping and catching some air, according to Police.

Police say Saechao hit a fence at a credit union and drove through the parking lot, through another fence and hit several Hyundai cars that were for sale.

Police say they tried to stop Saechao by ramming his car near 22nd and Mission streets, but were unsuccessful.

Saechao continued onto Mission and hit a car traveling in the oncoming lane of traffic, according to police.

Officers tried ramming Saechao's car again unsuccessfully, but police say they were able to block the vehicle forcing Saechao to run from his vehicle on foot.

"He hopped out of the car, put his hands in the air, but then took off running,” a witness said. “And so they had to chase him down even more."

A K-9 was sent after Saechao, and police say the dog bit and stopped him.

Saechao was taken back to Salem Hospital for treatment and for evaluation.

There's no word at this point on damage estimates.
