(KMOV.com) – A Franklin County woman who was allegedly run over her by her estranged husband with car told News 4 his violent outburst came out of nowhere.
Rebecca Fitzgerald said her memory of the event is fuzzy.
“The last thing I can honestly say I remember is the car he was driving, coming at me,” Fitzgerald said.
Fitzgerald said she and her husband James have been separated for several months. She told News 4 she was surprised when he approached her at a gas station. According to Rebecca, she quickly jumped in her car and drove to nearby parking lot to turn around in order to get away from him, but he followed her.
“At that point, he got in my car and wanted to talk,” Fitzgerald said. “He then grabs my keys and threw them across the parking lot and says ‘watch this.”
As she walked to get her keys, Rebecca said James ran over her.
“It hurts beyond belief. I can’t believe it,” Fitzgerald said.
Rebecca was knocked unconscious, but after she regained consciousness, she drove home where some friends called police.
James drove to his home in Catawissa, where he got into a standoff with Franklin County deputies. Police said James told others he would “shoot it out” if necessary. He eventually surrendered and was arrested.
Rebecca said she still lives in fear.
“I get very angry knowing that I feel like a prisoner and he gets to walk free,” Rebecca said.
