WASHINGTON PARK, Ill.(KMOV.com) -- A Metro East church was robbed during a choir practice around 9 p.m. Wednesday night.
Choir members of the Mount Calvary Church of God, on North 49th St. in Washington Park, were held up Wednesday by a man eventually getting away with personal belongings.
Robbing a church while it's in use is unusual, but not unheard of in the area.
Two years ago, three men stormed into a church in nearby East St. Louis during a special Sunday evening service.
At the time, the State's Attorney charged four people with robbery and obstruction, but the pastor of that church says no one went to jail for that crime. The church, however, continues to pay the price, hiring its own private security to keep the people in this house of worship.
According to police, there is no description of the subject in Wednesday's robbery and the church says its been advised not to give out any information into the incident.
