BELLEVILLE, Ill. (KMOV) -- As a Metro East development moves forward, a Belleville alderwoman continues to raise questions about the project.
Alderwoman Lillian Schneider, told News 4 she tried to ask questions about the developer during Tuesday night’s meeting, but never got any answers.
Schneider said Belleville Mayor Mark Eckert told her she should ask the developer her questions in private.
“I'm sorry, when it's taxpayers money it should be between the whole city,” Schneider said.
The $50 million development is looking for tax increment financing from the city. The project would include a hotel, conference center and a restaurant at the Our Lady of the Snows property.
During the meeting, Mayor Eckert made it clear that nothing about the development warrants suspicion.
“This city will never grow if you don't become a little more positive, a little more business friendly and a little more trusting,” Eckhert.
