(KMOV.com) – Authorities said the investigation into police shooting of the Kajieme Powell has been turned over to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office.
Powell was shot by officers in August. According to police, they were called to north St. Louis for a robbery at a store. Outside the store, they said they were confronted by Powell. Officers said they had to shoot Powell when he lunged at them with a knife. The incident was recorded on a cell phone by a witness.
The police investigation was completed by the Force Investigative Unit. The unit was formed in September to investigate all officer involved shootings in St. Louis City.
Powell’s family has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the St. Louis Police Department, saying he posed no threat to the officers on the scene.
