ST. CLAIR COUNTY, Ill. (KMOV.com) -- Illinois Department of Transportation is receiving complaints after the truck scheduled to plow Highway 161, northeast of Belleville, got into an accident Monday morning, delaying efforts to clear the road for rush hour.
The truck scheduled to plow Highway 161 was hit at an intersection on Highway 158 by a car that ran a red light after going too fast and being unable to stop.
Due to the accident, drivers attempting to use the road to get to work in the Metro East were met with slick, snow covered roads and traffic moving at a snails pace.
"In my neighborhood the side streets are better than 161," said Illinois driver William White.
After rush hour was over, an IDOT snowplow truck was busy pushing the slush off the 161 and made good progress.
By noon, the reviews of the progress had improved, but the drive on Highway 161 during rush hour was worse than drivers and IDOT engineers were expecting.
MODOT and IDOT are asking drivers to slow down to avoid accidents during wintry conditions.
