SOUTH ST. LOUIS (KMOV) -- Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the murder of a man that occurred Mardi Gras weekend.

Firefighters were dispatched to the 4000 block of McRee in the Botanical Heights neighborhood of South St. Louis early Feb. 15 after area residents heard a car horn go off and saw a burning vehicle.

After firefighters extinguished the fire, they discovered the body of Vincent Cascella, 24, of unincorporated west St. Louis County. Cascella's body was found burned inside of his Pontiac Grand Am, with several gunshot wounds to the head.

Police quickly cleaned up the scene at the request of residents in the neighborhood.

Vinny Cascella's mom said he went to see a concert in St. Louis and she wasn't sure how he ended up in the Botanical Heights neighborhood.

Cascella's family described him as a gentle soul who loved music and the youngest of four brothers and sisters.

Cascella was a graduate of Westminster Christian Academy.

The investigation is ongoing.
