ST. LOUIS, Mo (KMOV.com) – Police say a suspect is in custody after he allegedly stole a car, crashed, then fled on foot early Friday morning.

Investigators say they saw the suspect, Tarrell Williams, 19, driving a Mercedes-Benz that had been reported stolen near Whitter and North Market Street. Police attempted to pull over the vehicle, but Williams increased his speed, leading police on a chase.

Williams then crashed the car, and fled on foot. He was caught and taken into custody. Investigators also say he admitted to stealing the vehicle and told police he had a pistol in the glove box.

Williams is currently on probation for a previous gun offense.
