MONTICELLO, Ill. (AP) -- A dozen people are facing drug conspiracy charges following a five-month investigation into an alleged methamphetamine ring in the Cerro Gordo area.

The Piatt County sheriff's department had identified at least seven suspected meth manufacturing locations by December. According to Sgt. J.D. Russell, the first arrests were made Dec. 18 at a Cerro Gordo home and the last arrests were made Thursday morning. He says the busts were made in at homes in residential neighborhoods and in the county.

Russell tells The (Champaign) News-Gazette (http://bit.ly/171gqjg ) the suspects were manufacturing meth for personal use and trading. He says they didn't plan to sell the drugs for profit.

Four of the 12 people arrested, all of whom are Cerro Gordo residents, face additional charges on top of the methamphetamine conspiracy charge.
