EDWARDSVILLE, Ill.- A Madison County jury has found a man guilty of first degree murder in connection with the death of 20-year-old Dakota Jones, of Cahokia, Ill.
Scottie Thompson, 43, is facing 20-60 years in prison due to a 1989 murder conviction in St. Clair County and will be sentenced in 6-8 weeks.
Thompson was released from prison in February of 2013 for his 1989 murder conviction and was on parole when police say he beat Dakota Jones with a blunt force object and placed his body into Horseshoe Lake.
Thompson remains in custody in Belleville, Ill., but will eventually be brought to the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville.
Thompson will be required to serve 100 percent of his sentence and will be held without bond.
