MARIETTA, GA (CBS46) - Marietta Police confirm that the man who was shot and killed Monday night in their town was answering an ad on Craigslist.

A woman who lives on Jamaica Cove in Marietta said she opened the front door to leave her house just after 9 p.m. Monday. That's when she saw a red car had crashed into a tree in her front yard.

When police arrived, they discovered the driver, James Jones Jr., 21, was dead from a gunshot wound.

It's unknown if he was conscious at the time that he crashed or if he was killed instantly.

Marietta police said Jones answered a Craigslist ad for an iPhone 6 that was for sale.

According to police, when Jones arrived, he was robbed and shot by the suspects, who posted the ad.

Marietta detectives arrested Jordan Baker, 18, Jonathon Myles, 19, and Kaylnn Ruthenberg, 21, and charged all three with armed robbery, aggravated assault and felony murder.

All three suspects are being held at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center.

Jones, who was a junior chemistry major at Clark Atlanta University, was a native of Daytona Beach, Florida.

Clark Atlanta says Jones' killing is a "devastating" loss for the school.
