SUNSET HILLS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – The Sunset Hills Board of Aldermen voted to hire an attorney to handle impeachment proceedings against Mayor Mark Furrer after a three-hour contention filled meeting.
Aldermen were considering a proposal that would set aside $25,000 of taxpayer money for an impeachment attorney. The bill was criticized for a number of reasons, including the minimum amount of time Aldermen were given to review the bill and the overall cost.
The Board of Aldermen previously voted in favor of an ordinance that would allow a city official to be impeached if an impeachable offense is committed.
Mayor Furrer was indicted on charges of assault and property damage in December after he allegedly ran a cyclist off the road in July, his court date is set for Dec. 14. Some have called on Furrer to resign. Furrer has repeatedly said he will not step down.
