ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) – A St. Louis Circuit Court judge on Tuesday sentenced Robert O. Simmons to prison after he pleaded guilty to first-degree assault on a law-enforcement officer and armed criminal action.

Judge John Riley sentenced Simmons to seven years for the first-degree assault charge and three years for the armed criminal action charge.

Police said in 2013 Simmons fired sixteen times at an unmarked police car in the 4200 block of Evans driven by Major Joseph Spiess.  Spiess was not injured.
