ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KMOV.com) – Two St. Louis County cities are being sued in federal court for the “unconstitutional” way they allegedly issue tickets and jail people.

Fifteen people are suing Ferguson and Jennings claiming the cities are issuing tickets, which could end up with the person in jail if the fine goes unpaid. If the fine goes unpaid, the city issues a warrant for the person’s arrest, which leads to the person having to pay to get out of jail.

The lawsuits also describe deplorable jail conditions where some prisoners went without sanitary needs, and in some cases general healthcare needs.

The goal of the lawsuits is to stop Ferguson and Jennings from continuing these alleged practices, while compensating people who say their rights were violated.

News 4 has reached out to both cities for a comment regarding the lawsuits.
