BRENTWOOD (KMOV) -- A salesman for a Brentwood steak company is accused of stealing 62 boxes of steaks valued at $1,178 and selling them on the side.

Michael J. Mancil, 24, of Cedar Hill, has been charged with theft. Mancil worked as a salesman at Iowa Steak Co. According to police, Mancil sold the meats on a consignment basis. Whatever items were signed out at the beginning of the day had to be paid for at the end of the day. Customers or salespeople pay for the meat.

On the morning of Jan. 30, Mancil signed out the steaks and took a company truck with him, but he did not return at the end of the day. His bosses could not reach for him days, but the company eventually tracked the truck by GPS to a parking lot in Jefferson County.

Mancil admitted that he sold the steaks then spent the money he received instead of giving it to the company.
