EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (KMOV) -- Officials in East St. Louis are working to rid the community of violence with education, awareness and job creation as part of "40 Days of Non-Violence."
East St. Louis Police say the department has seen a decrease in violent crime since this time last year and there are hopes that the "40 Days of Non-Violence" will continue bringing success.
Each week the city focuses on a topic, such as health, professional development and college education. Leaders are hoping that a new way of thinking will change attitudes and violent behavior.
This week's topic is military services and first responders week. The city will focus on the kids and highlight careers in public safety.
