ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A 22-year-old Saint Louis University student was arrested Thursday night  after allegedly raping an 18-year-old woman in his room at the Marchetti Towers East student apartment building.

On Tuesday, the victim, who is not a student at SLU, reported the assault to SLU Department of Public Safety, who referred the case to St. Louis Police.

Investigators say the assault happened on January 27th after the suspect and victim had been drinking.

An initial report by SLU Department of Safety officers said the suspect took photographs and distributed them without the victim's consent.

"When i saw it, it just shocked me a little bit that this is happening on campus," Katie Reitano, a SLU student, told News 4.

SLU authorities sent out a safety notification email Friday morning, notifying the campus community of the report of the rape allegation and providing resources on sexual assault.

Students said they appreciated the university for keeping them informed.

"They're very proactive in letting students know what any dangers or significant events that are going on," said Jonathon Barlow.

The suspect was taken into custody but later released, pending warrants.

The investigation is ongoing.
