COLLINSVILLE, Ill. (KMOV.com) – Police said a 59-year-old man got into a fight with a serial burglar who attempted to steal from his home in Collinsville.
Authorities said the victim and his young son were returning home from the grocery store when they spotted John Lee standing at the top of their home’s stairs. Police said Lee proceeded to charge at the victim.
“I believe there definitely were punches thrown because it caused a big enough laceration where it caused significant bleeding to Mr. Lee,” said someone with Collinsville police.
According to police, Lee was able to get away, but police located his getaway car and were able to link it back to him.
“We take him very seriously. He’s obviously a very violent man because not only did he commit a home invasion and residential burglary, but he also got into a physical confrontation,” someone with Collinsville police said.
Lee is currently out on parole for a prior burglary conviction. His record includes several burglaries, for which he received long sentences. Despite the punishments that have been handed down, he made it back out on the streets early.
Authorities are still searching for Lee. If you have any information, call police.
