( – Police say a woman was sitting at a stop light when a carjacker, armed with a gun, hopped in her car and told her drive. She didn’t like that so she fought back.

“To be honest with you, I was so shocked,” said Brandy Keck. “First of all, I didn’t know what he [the carjacker] was doing.”

Investigators say Keck was sitting in her pickup truck at the intersection of West Chain of Rocks Road and Route 3 in Madison County when a mysterious man approached her. The man, later identified as Jermaine Pierce, allegedly got out of his car in front of her and walked back toward her.

“I was scared to death,” Keck said.

Pierce allegedly opened her side door and got in the passenger seat, but instead of letting Pierce hold her hostage, she took control of the situation.

“I floored it! I just turned real hard to the left. My phone charger and everything went out with him,” Keck said.

Keck then drove to a nearby Waffle House and called 911. Officers in Granite City were able to find Pierce and another suspect, Kelton Harris, for their alleged involvement in the attempted carjacking. Harris and Pierce were in a vehicle when officers found them and they fled from police. The two alleged suspects rammed into two police cars during the pursuit and finally crashed in St. Louis.

Police arrested Harris and Pierce, but also say they are searching for a third suspect.

The investigation is ongoing.
