(KMOV.com) – Crews closed the Eads Bridge because of a fire that broke out on the historic structure Wednesday night.
The fire broke out around 8:00 p.m. on railroad ties on a MetroLink track that was closed and being restored. Firefighters launched a boat to fight the blaze from below. Firefighters said a crew above the fire lowered a hose to the crew below, who put the fire out. The bridge was closed to both cars and trains for several hours.
While the fire was still burning, a News 4 camera captured two MetroLink trains passing over it on a separate track. Both trains appeared to be unaffected by the flames.
The bridge eventually re-opened.
