O'Fallon, Mo. Police Dept. uses Facebook to warn drivers about speed traps

(KMOV.com) – The O’Fallon Missouri Police Department has warned drivers exactly where they will be looking for those who break the speed limit.

“Now that I have your attention, we’ll be conducting extra speed enforcement today on I-70 near T.R. Hughes," the department said on their Facebook page.

Many drivers told News 4 they believe it is good public relations. Others said they think it will help drivers slow down and drive safer.

“It is a good idea, because it causes people to slow down which they should be doing anyway,” said motorist Michael Riley.

Officers said they are looking for anyone speeding or driving aggressively.

“When you stop someone there could be a warrant for their arrest. There could be something going on in the car, whether that individual has drugs [or is] intoxicated, the possibilities are open as to what can happen when that car is stopped,” said O'Fallon Police Officer Diana Damke.

The O’Fallon Police Department said their officers actually wrote more tickets than normal when they warned drivers where they would be watching for speeders.
