POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. (KMOV.com) – An armed robbery suspect is in the custody of the Poplar Bluff police department following a vehicle pursuit Tuesday night.
Demetri ‘Dee Dee’ Rodgers, 19, is suspected of holding a man at gunpoint and ordering him to empty his pockets in the 1100 block of Pershing Street. The robbery victim told police another man, known to him as Sheldon, assisted Rodgers in the robbery.
The victim told police the suspects stole his prescription medicines and a small amount of cash. After the robbery, the suspects ordered the victim to remove his clothes. According to police, the suspect told the victim he was going to rob his mother using a hammer.
Police allege Rodgers then stole the victims 2008 Dodge Nitro.
After Rodgers took the vehicle, Sheldon gave the victim a change of clothes and told him to leave the residence.
A few hours after the robbery, police located the victim’s stolen vehicle and attempted to stop it. The vehicle led authorities on a chase until the driver abandoned the vehicle in the 600 block of Lindsay Street.
The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody a short time later.
Rodgers is charged with receiving stolen property, resisting arrest, possession of a controlled substance and numerous traffic violations. Police say they have requested additional charges of first degree robbery, armed criminal action and stealing a motor vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected, police say.
