(KMOV) -- A man is in custody after police responded to a domestic dispute in Farmington that led to a pursuit that ended in St. Louis County.

According to officials, when police arrived at the scene, numerous witnesses said that 33-year-old Charles Atkins from Farmington, had just stolen the car that belonged to the woman he was arguing with.

Other officers saw the car a few blocks away, but instead of stopping, Atkins allegedly tried to ram an officer’s car. That officer was able to avoid being hit.

This sparked a chase in which officers followed Atkins north on Highway D to Highway Y to Highway 67 onto Interstate 55 into St. Louis County. Authorities were able to stop Atkins in St. Louis County after he rolled over stop sticks placed out by Arnold police near 141.

Atkins allegedly resisted arrest, was injured, and was taken into custody. He was taken to an area hospital.

Atkins was charged with Felony Assault on a Police Officer, Felony Assault, Domestic Assault, and Felony Resisting Arrest.

Atkins is held at the St. Francois County Jail on a $150,000 cash only bond.
