ST. LOUIS (KMOV) — Officials with the Metropolitan St. Louis Sewer District have admitted that flooding from the past weekend’s heavy rain was caused by a failure in their system.
According to MSD officials, the gates that normally release storm water into the Mississippi River were closed due to the high water, and after the heavy rain, two electrical systems failed to open those gates. This caused the water to back up into homes and the streets.
MSD will be meeting with homeowners Wednesday night to discuss how those families will be compensated. MSD normally covers $2,400 dollars in damages through their insurance policy but this time MSD believes they need to be more accountable.
