City leaders will listen to public opinion in Del Taco meeting Wednesday

(KMOV)-- City leaders will listen to public input Wednesday, regarding midtown landmark Del Taco.

The location originally started as a Phillips 66 gas station and later turned into the fast food restaurant.

Now, a developer wants to tear down the structure and put up a retail building, which has many local residents upset.

Thousands, to be exact.

A new Facebook fan page has over 11,700 likes as of Wednesday morning. It was started by Mike Batchelor, an IT consultant from St. Charles who says he stops by Del Taco often during his weekly trips into the city.

“I thought 100 people-- 50 to 100 people. People put things up before for other causes [that] never quite took off. People see value in the building and think it's a cool place,” Batchelor said.

A subcommittee meeting will start at 10:00 a.m. in room 208 in City Hall. The question now becomes how many fans actually appear.
