(KMOV)—Multiple people have been charged after citizens alerted police of the increase in criminal activity going on in one East St. Louis city park.
A large number of citizens complained of the drug activity taking place in Officer/McBride Park over the recent years, causing parents to keep the kids away from playing in the park.
Authorities took notice and announced on Tuesday that the police have issued 23 different charges on 14 people in that area after a major bust. Some charges included possession and intent to distribute in the park.
Four men; Clifton Williams, Darin Phelps, William Edwards, and Willie Phelps all face possible felony crack distribution charges. Police say these men were hiding the illegal drugs within the landscaping around the park's play set
Residents are relieved with these arrests but think this may not be the end of criminal activity in the area, police think they have made a major dent in crack sales in this park.
