(KMOV)-- Volkswagen is taking its next step into the future, while drivers sit back to enjoy the ride.
The German automaker revealed its ‘Temporary Auto Pilot’ function Friday, which will allow vehicles to drive semi-automatically at speeds up to 80 mph on highways as drivers simply monitor the process.
The technology includes features like cruise control and lane keeping assist, and the system ensures that vehicles keep a safe distance between cars and stop for traffic jams.
Volkswagen could put the programming into production within the next couple years.
