(KMOV)-- The Cardinals need help! And Tuesday night they're getting some as David Freese and Nick Punto return to the active roster. The Cardinals have lost 12 of their last 15 games and now sit 3 games behind Milwaukee in the National League Central. They've been shutout 4 times in that span.
David Freese's return to 3rd base will be huge as the Cardinals have been shuffling guys around at 3rd in his absence. That included Albert Pujols who started a few games at 3rd base. In case you missed it, Pujols is out another 5 weeks with a broken wrist. Daniel Descalso will now shuffle around at different positions as needed.
Freese played only 4 games with Triple-A Memphis in his rehab and had 13 at bats. He was batting .356 before he took a pitch off his finger May 1st. The Cards could really use a spark from Freese, especially with Pujols out.
Punto last played on May 17th and has been out since with a forearm strain. He will primarily serve as a backup at 2nd base.
The Cardinals kick off an interleague road trip Tuesday night at 6:05 in Baltimore. After 3 games with the Orioles the Cards play 3 in Tampa Bay. Then they return home on July 4th for the start of a crucial series against division rival Cincinnati.
