(KMOV)-- Wet pavement is to blame for the deaths of two people driving just north of Greenfield, Illinois Saturday.
Police say the accident happened around noon on Illinois 267.
Officials believe the driver was going southbound on the two-lane road and lost control of the vehicle on the slick pavement, causing the driver to swerve into a vehicle coming from the opposite direction.
The first vehicle overturned, and the vehicle driving in the northbound lane drove off the road and into an embankment.
The driver and passenger in the overturned vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene. Three others from the second vehicle were taken to area hospitals.
