Branson robbery suspect tracked to St. Louis through cell phone GPS

(KMOV.com) -- St. Louis police are investigating a an armed robbery that occurred Saturday morning in Branson, Missouri.

Branson authorities said the robbery happened on Roark Valley Road shortly after 2 a.m. on Saturday.  According to reports, a black male approached three victims who were seated at a picnic table near a building.  One of the victims stated that the suspect had a t-shirt wrapped around his face and pulled out a handgun.  The suspect told the three victims to leave the area and to leave their belongings.

The victims left the area without incident.  Police said the suspect got away with a purse, and some electronics including an iPod and a cell phone.

St. Louis police joined the investigation because the cell phone the suspect stole still has an active GPS signal.  They traced that cell phone's location to St. Louis on Saturday afternoon.  At last check, police have not been able to determine the precise location of the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 6 feet tall with a thin build, short hair and weighs 180 pounds.  At the time of the robbery, the suspect was wearing jeans and a white sleeveless t-shirt that had the arm holes cut down to expose his sides.
