HOUSTON—A Friendswood woman confessed to stealing from an 82-year-old woman in order to please a man she was having an affair with, according to the Webster Police Department.
Griselda Yudith Escobar, 38, was charged with theft from an elderly person.
Escobar allegedly took a necklace and a pendant, valued at $270, from an elderly woman who lived at the Terrace Senior Living apartments on July 11. She was working as a cleaning lady on the property, which is how she gained access to the unit.
The victim said she discovered several pieces of jewelry missing from her bedroom dresser drawer after Escobar left. Other residents also reported thefts from their homes.
Escobar was fired from working at the complex after the complaints.
Police interviewed Escobar who, not only confessed to stealing from the elderly woman, but said she did it to help the lover she was having an affair with, investigators said.
Escobar said her lover was having financial problems, and convinced her to steal from the elderly residents so she could help him out.
Her bail was set at $2,000.
The jewelry was never recovered.
