(KMOV) -- I-64 was closed for hours near the I-55/70 interchange after an accident involving a tractor-trailer. It happened around 10:00 a.m. on Monday on eastbound I-64 near the 55/70 interchange in East St. Louis.
A semi-truck carrying garbage overturned, causing a big mess on the highway.
Investigators say the 35-year-old driver took a curve too fast, stricking a guard rail and flipping over. One of the truck's diesel fuel tanks exploded, but firefighters quickly put out the flames.
The driver was taken to a hopsital with serious injuries.
