ST. LOUIS (AP) -- The Missouri Department of Transportation has determined that a ramp from a bridge connecting Missouri and Illinois over the Mississippi River at St. Louis is structurally sound.
MoDOT said Monday that crumbling concrete was from the outer surface of the edge of the Poplar Street Bridge.
The agency said crews are looking at all of the downtown St. Louis bridges for other similar cracks. They'll remove any other potentially loose concrete.
It said the recent freeze and thaw may have caused cracks in the facade along the edge of older bridges.
MoDOT noticed the problem Sunday on a bridge ramp that leads to Interstate 55 on the Missouri side of the river.
