Metro-East woman gets 40 years for death of toddler stepson

EDWARDSVILLE - A history of abuse preceded the death of a toddler, whose stepmother received a 40-year sentence Thursday for killing him by banging his head against a doorframe.

Associate Judge James Hackett handed down the sentence to Jami Renee Anderson, 29, of the 3100 block of Fernwood Avenue, Alton, who had pleaded guilty to a charge of first-degree murder in Madison County Circuit Court in November.

That plea was in exchange for a prosecution agreement to seek a sentence of no more than 50 years in the case involving 22-month-old Chase Anderson. The child died last March 9, a day after being injured.
