Reports released in St. Louis City department audits

(KMOV) -- Missouri State Auditor Susan Montee released her latest findings on several St. Louis City departments.

A citizen’s group gathered enough petitions to force audits of city departments, so Montee has been working through them.

Today she criticized record keeping in the Recorder of Deeds Office, including the practice of writing down cash withdrawals on Post-It® Notes.

She said her audit of the Public Administrator’s Office was incomplete because the city has not assumed the cost or control of that department. She added she found evidence handling and bookkeeping in the Circuit Attorney’s office to be lacking.

Montee explained the problems in evidence handling did not affect going to trial and while the bank accounts didn’t balance, there was not sign of impropriety. She also said the problems her audits turned up have been addressed, but there are issues citywide and she will be talking about those in the coming weeks.
