The unemployment rate in Illinois reached a level this past December not seen in more than a quarter century, at 11.1 percent, according to the most recent report from the Illinois Department of Employment Security.
Approximately 733,300 people were jobless during the month, the report says.
That number only includes those who are listed as actively seeking work, regardless of whether they are collecting benefits.
