(KMOV) -- A federal bill could put the brakes on driving while texting nationwide.
U.S. Senator Charles Schumer of New York is proposing the bill.
In this proposed bill, if states don't agree to put a ban on texting while driving for all drivers they could lose 25 percent of their federal highway funds.
Currently there is a statewide ban on texting while driving in Illinois. Missouri, however, only bans drivers under 21-years-old from texting and driving.
