It certainly sounds like a good idea. A 20 year plan to turn Jefferson Barracks into a military themed tourist attraction.
The St Louis County Executive, along with some local vets believe it is a good idea. The Barracks are alot more than a national cemetary. The plan inclides turning this landmark area into a sweeping combination of museums, public areas and a monument to the area's military history.
The plan calls for both public and private funding and to get it started Congressman Carnahan announced federal funding for signs and landscaping on the grounds.
The goal is to make it something along the lines of the Arlington of the midwest. There's no disputing the importance of Jefferson Barracks. The question now is how to make this plan happen and how to pay for it.
