Illinois license plate rules could be changing

(KMOV) -- Police are against a proposal to save the state of Illinois money because the proposal does not require drivers to display license plates on the front of vehicles.

Cops say the license plates on the front of cars give them another opportunity to identify a vehicle that killers, robbers, or kidnappers could be driving.

The Secretary of State’s Office agrees with police but Representative Mitchell says he’s trying to save the state a million dollars a year by producing fewer plates.
The proposal would save 60 cents per vehicle.
Missouri still requires plates on the front and back of cars but 19 other states only require cars to have plates on the back.
