For a few hours Thursday, the Holy Child School in Arnold took a break from the books. Older kids hit the halls doning reflective vests, goggles and hardhats... while the younger kids lay on floors playing the role of victims.
The kids are learning about search and rescue in a disaster.
The Rock Community Fire Protection District goes into seven schools throughout the area each year to conduct this training. It's serious. If there's a disaster at a school guess who responds before the fire department gets there?.... The older kids.
They've got their responder gear including first aid kits in lockers around the building. They're even trained to turn off the power to the entire building and shut off the utilities if need be. Wow.
Check out my story and see some of these impressive youngsters in action tonight at 5pm.
