(KMOV)—The Jefferson County sheriff is warning residents and business owners to be aware of an unidentified phone solicitor attempting to obtain money for advertisement.
Sheriff Oliver Glenn Boyer said under the pretense the solicitation is being supported by Jefferson County Government and the Sheriff's Office. In one incident the caller told the business owner that his company was classified as a "Five Star" business and his business was entitled to "Five Star" advertising on magnetic signs. The business owner was told the signs would be handed out at the Courthouse and Sheriff's Office.
So far one business was scammed. Authorities believe it could become a bigger issue once business owner’s see the report.
Sheriff Boyer advised the Sheriff's Office nor the County is supporting any type of phone solicitation and he urges residents and businesses to be cautious when dealing with phone solicitors.
