Man sentenced to 20 years in woman's drug death

EAST ST. LOUIS, Ill. (AP) -- A U.S. District Court judge in East St. Louis has sentenced a Missouri man to 20 years in federal prison in the death of a Belleville woman who was originally believed to have died from an accidental self-overdose of drugs.

Under the sentence imposed Friday, 45-year-old Joseph Perrone of Ellsinore, Mo., was also ordered to pay nearly $10,000 in restitution to the dead woman's mother.

Perrone pleaded guilty in September to distribution of a controlled substance resulting in the death of 31-year-old Terry Learn.

Learn, who was a mother of two, was a former exotic dancer at a nightclub in Brooklyn, Ill. Her decomposed body was found in a Belleville apartment.

Police say they believe the death occurred in Fairview Heights, where Perrone lived before moving to Missouri.
