Blues trim roster to 33 players

(HockeySTL)-- Following their 4-2 preseason loss to the Dallas Stars in Kansas City on Saturday night, the Blues made five late-night roster cuts, sending three forwards, one defenseman and one goalie to their American Hockey League affiliate Chicago Wolves.

The five players heading to Chicago are: forwards Ty Rattie, Philip McRae, John McCarthy, along with defenseman Brent Regner and goaltender Jordan Binnington.

After the cuts, 33 players remain on the club’s roster. Last week, head coach Ken Hitchcock said he planned to have the roster down to 30 players on Sunday, but several players, including forward Robby Fabbri and defenseman Petteri Lindbohm, were unexpected survivors of the most recent trim, having performed well enough in the last week to make the case for their keeping. The recent signing and addition of Jaden Schwartz also made for an extra body.

The Blues will make 10 more cuts between now and the end of training camp on Oct. 4.
