FERGUSON, MO (KMOV.com) – Police in Ferguson have released body camera video in an effort to explain why a demonstration turned physical Thursday night.
Ferguson Police Chief Tom Jackson was marching with demonstrators when a commotion began in the crowd, leading to the arrest of five protesters. Protesters at the gathering said it was police who started the shoving, but Jackson says that isn’t true.
“I haven’t had the chance to talk specifically with anyone about what went on there,” Jackson said. He also says his officers did not initiate physical contact.
Mary Chandler, a Ferguson resident, said an African-American officer “came through the crowd and punched one of the young men protesting. He then reached up and grabbed him. That’s when all the shoving started.”
Five demonstrators were arrested during the incident.
