ST. LOUIS (KMOV.com) – The DEA is setting up free and anonymous drop off sites for residents to dispose of their old prescription drugs.
Officials say many people throw them away or flush them down the toilet which isn’t a good idea.
“It’s an environmental concern,” said Laura Oster, Director of Pharmacy at the DePaul Health Center. “We’re finding that there are many different drugs being found in our water supply, like hormones and what not. We really discourage that.”
Health experts say 40% of teens who abuse drugs do so by getting prescription medication out of their parents’ medicine cabinet.
