ST. LOUIS, Mo. (KMOV.com) -- A controversy over the absence of a popular principal at a St. Louis high school drew some students out of the class room Friday.

The students at Vashon High School were heard chanting "no Houston - no peace,” a reference to former principal, Terry Houston.  Houston has been gone several weeks; the district will only say Houston stepped-down voluntarily.

Students say they don't believe the administration.

“They're telling us lies - that he's sick, this and the other.  We want the truth, we just seen Houston’s face, just seen his face to calm us down. We don't want to be calm until Houston is back at Vashon"

Students told News 4 they will continue demonstrating and may even stop going to class if Houston doesn't come back or they don't get an explanation.

A district spokesperson would not elaborate to why Houston stopped down.

A new principal will be at Vashon by Monday morning.
