HIGHLAND, Ill. (KMOV.com) – A man who was shot by a Highland woman after he broke into her home has pled guilty to home invasion in 2013.
Joshua Jewell of Troy originally faced up to 30 years in prison before accepting a plea deal. Now, the prosecutor’s office will not ask for more than 19 years.
Police said Jewell broke into the Highland home on February 10, 2013. Police said he then physically assaulted two sisters ages 47 and 55. One sister told police she was defending the life of her sibling, and had begged for the intruder to stop and get out of the apartment.
The older sister then reportedly fired two shots; the first was a warning, and the second struck Jewell in the back.
